Weekend DJs
Fri 21 and Sat 22 May 2021
From 7pm – Simma – Global Sound
Catch Simma digging through his lockdown crates in a 5 hour funk-meets-dub-meets-jazz-meets-hiphop extravaganza.
From 2pm – Jaz
Jaz has been DJing the Hull circuit for 33 years and has amassed a vinyl collection of many different genres and styles, with a penchant for ’90s Hip hop and late ’80s Chicago House.
From 7pm – Vinyl Rights aka The Don
20 years in the game, playing at the likes of Propaganda in Leeds and Manchester, Gin and Juice in Sheffield and Leeds, Phat Fridays in York, CLUB NME, and supporting the one and only Fatboy Slim, it’s a pleasure to welcome him back to Social.
His open book approach to music and DJing results in an unpredictable but crowd-pleasing approach, featuring live mash-ups and remixes, alongside crowd favourites and obscure gems, dug from his dusty shelves of vinyl. Expect to hear Soul, Funk, Disco, Hip hop, Breakbeats and House.
Acoustic Sunday
Sun 23 May 2021
Open 12pm – 6pm
Join us for relaxed vibes and spine-tingling acoustic music from the cream of the region’s music talent, alongside some choice tunes on vinyl from our DJs.
1:15pm – Sarge
Sarge (Paul Sargeson), creates lo-fi jazz and r&b beats. A self-produced songwriter who has given the city some much-needed diversity genre-wise, Sarge mixes intricate guitar playing with beautiful falsetto and memorable melodies.
2:15pm – Grace Christiansen
An incredibly hard-working artist, Grace’s talent as a singer-songwriter has seen her become part of the city’s most exciting new bands and produce great solo tracks in the process, focusing on stripped-back instrumentation with heartfelt hooky choruses.
3:15pm – Brodie Milner
Another real treat this week. Brodie Milner joins us, having released two brilliant singles in 2020, both ‘Acheron’ and ‘Philomela’ showing Brodie’s skills as a songwriter with a unique vocal, and keen ear for emotive instrumentation.
